Giving Back
In the FIRST LEGO League competition, there is a robotics portion, and a research project. Part of the research project is talking to figures in your community about the problem you're trying to solve based on the years theme. This includes talking to professionals, meeting with executives, and taking feedback from everyone to better your project.
In FTC, they do not require a research project. That means there is no communication between the team and their community. Here in Harborfields, we don't feel the same way.
We believe it is important to give back to the program that gave us the opportunity to be here in the first place. Before FTC, most of our team went through FIRST LEGO League. This is the robotics program one age group below us (9-14). As alumni, we mentor the younger teams and volunteer at FIRST events. Cameron from A.L.I.D.E mentors two FLL teams. Alex from A.L.I.D.E is an event volunteer and helps run the AV for FIRST events. Ben from Hydrofluoric attends all three of the HF robotic's team meetings so we can learn from his mistakes and better ourselves. In doing this we hope to inspire the younger kids to follow us and give back when they are able to.
